Borderline 16 Hawks (2010)

16 Hawks Win Again (3/14/10)

The 16 Hawks struck gold again winning a Borderline 17 tournament at Phillips. This is the first time since I've been coaching to go head to head against a former Borderline alumni who played for me (Natalie Pierce) and went on to play volleyball at the University of Cincinnati. She learned a lot as a player and took another lesson as a coach as the Hawks beat McGee VBC in pool play and in the first round of the play offs.

Nightmare at Phillips. That's what some opposing players had on their mind as Alex McPherson ripped serve after serve on Sunday. Alex did a great job moving the ball and picking on players time and time again with relentless serves. Chole Jason and Kylie Annunziate ran strong middle play all day, keeping the offense going strong. They also added solid blocking pushing the Hawks toward the finals.

The Hawks had a great head to head in pool play going against a formidable 17 SEIVB from Indiana. Heather Siefker made great reads and set a formable offense from the solid passing of Jessica Conrad and Taylor Ruder. The Hawks won back to back sets sending the Indiana team to over to play Borderline 16 Red. Who sent them packing for home with a loss in the first round of the playoffs.

The next two matches saw the Hawks beat the Dayton Juniors 16 and 17 Gold teams respectively. They were playing a great front-side defense against us. So we reversed the flow sending the ball to our off side hitter Vanessa (V) Lay. V had some big kills off some great passing from the ever consistent Becca Robben, sending the Hawks to the winner's circle for the second time this season wearing the championship t-shirt.
